How to Use a Body Scrub

It is so insane when you realize just how many irritants our skin deals with on a daily basis. From dead skin cell buildup, oil residue, environmental pollutants, changes in the weather, and stress, the factors working against our skin’s natural radiance is abundant.  If you've noticed your skin has been looking a little dull, it's most likely caused by all those crazy things it's subjected to everyday. The easiest way to restore your body’s natural glow is through exfoliation!

HOW TO EXFOLIATE

Using an exfoliating body scrub is a pretty easy task to add to your existing skin care routine. Start by damping your face and or, body with water.  Using a bit of body scrub product, apply light pressure onto the skin in a circular motion. Leave it on for a few minutes if it contains natural oils, so it can soak into your skin. Follow with a rinse off and pat dry.  While the method of applying the product is simple, you do need to be aware of the following points below to avoid any issues:

1. PRESSURE

Don’t apply too much pressure when using the exfoliating body scrub. More pressure does not lead to higher benefit. If you feel any sort of pain, you might be removing healthy tissue, which can leave your skin red and irritated.

2. TEMPERATURE

Before applying the scrub to your body, soften your skin with warm to hot water beforehand. This will get your skin ready for exfoliation. If the water is too hot, you’ll probably end up drying out your skin.

3. EXPERIMENT

Feel free to experiment! Exfoliating methods differs for every individual depending on skin type and level of sensitivity. If you have sensitive skin, start using an exfoliating body scrub first on a small patch of skin to see how the body reacts.

Also be sure to choose ingredients wisely or you may increase your risk of dryness and even breakouts. 

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU USE A BODY SCRUB?

If you are just starting your exfoliation journey, it is recommended to start off once a week, then gradually working up to 3-4 times per week. If you are new to exfoliation and have sensitive skin, speak with your dermatologist first and/or test the product on a small part of your body.

Keep in mind that every body responds differently to exfoliation. Using an exfoliating body scrub daily can aggravate the skin, while exfoliating too sparingly won’t be effective in achieving a radiant glow, and you’ll still end up with clogged pores and hardened skin.
