8 Habits For Gorgeous Skin

Having beautiful skin is something that pretty much everyone wants, which is probably why the cosmetics/beauty industry makes over $50 billion each year. Here are some habits that you can easily start practicing now that might help you on your journey to achieving or maintaining beautiful skin:

1. Drink Water

Hydration - on the inside and outside - helps to keep your body in check by flushing out toxins. But, how much water should one drink in a day? It's sometimes a difficult question to answer since everyone is different; some people exercise more than others and need to drink more water than someone who doesn't exercise regularly. A good rule of thumb is the "8 by 8" rule, which is 8 8-ounce glasses of water per day.

2. Exfoliate

Exfoliating is SO important, we literally can't stress it enough! Exfoliating helps to remove dead skin cells to leave your skin looking glowy and youthful. If you're skipping on exfoliating, you're allowing layers of dead skin cells build on your face, which can lead to clogged pores and dull skin.

3. Exercise

Exercising is great for your skin since it helps with your body's circulation and blood flow! Another plus: Working up a sweat can help lower the stress hormone cortisol, which is linked not only to skin aging but breakouts and clogged pores.

4. Clean Your Phone

Most of us are attached to our phones nearly all day long. We leave them on tables, in our purses, take them with us to the bathroom, drop them etc.

But, did you know that our cellphones are 10x dirtier than a toilet seat... Yikes. If you talk on your phone often, all that bacteria is settling onto your cheek and being transmitted to other surfaces from your hands. So, try to clean your phone at the end of each day! Use an alcohol-based wipe, or use a lint-free cloth that has alcohol on it, and swipe your phone completely. DO NOT use cleaning agents with bleach in them (since this can ruin your phone case and your phone).

5. Clean Pillowcase

A pillowcase can start to build up dead skin and other bacteria overtime. Here's a tip: sleep on one side of your pillow for a week, then flip it over to the other side and sleep on it for a week. After those two weeks, definitely throw it in the washer with hot water so it can kill the bacteria and breakdown any face oils. If you have extremely sensitive skin, you might want to flip your pillow over after a few days, and consider switching out your pillowcase at the end of each week.

6. Always Remove Makeup Before Bed

No matter how exhausted you are, be sure to remove your eye makeup before bed. Leaving makeup on while you sleep not can lead to breakouts and clogged pores, but this can ultimately ages you over time. Makeup can settle into your skin and prematurely cause fine lines/wrinkles if you make it a habit of not cleansing before bed!

7. Be Gentle When Removing Eye Makeup

The skin around your eye area is extremely delicate, so take extra care when removing eye makeup. If you typically wear waterproof makeup, coconut oil or our Coffee Body Oil can help break it down before you cleanse with a cleanser!

8. Layering Your Skincare

It's important to have a great morning and evening skincare routine to have beautiful skin. In the morning, cleanse, tone, apply moisturizer, then apply sunscreen. In the evening, remove your makeup, cleanse, tone, apply a serum, then apply a night cream. Layering your products is key to getting the hydration and protection you need!
